Q. Why Should I Use Cedar Siding?

A. Cedar is a very durable softwood and will be in place for many years. The natural oils in the wood will help the wood resist the elements.

Q. What style should I buy; a bevel, channel or a tongue and groove?

A. This is a personal choice with bevel used for horizontal, channel for vertical. The tongue and groove is a good choice and very versatile, one side planed and the other side is a rougher face. It can be used externally or internally depending on the house design. All bevel siding is graded to the rough face.  Characteristics which do not interfere with the intended use are permitted on the reverse face.

Grade:  WCLIB 111-e and 111-f

“Select Knotty” allowing 10/15%- Quality Knotty

The siding is kiln dried to max 19% moisture content. Before applying it is a good idea to allow wood to sit for a 5-10 days in order to acclimate with the local climate.

Q.Can I paint or stain the siding?

A. Yes, Cedar does take stains well and some buyers have painted the wood as well. There are many options on the market and certainly well worth it to visit your local paint expert.

Q. How do I calculate the volume that I need?

A. A simple formula - wall square footage, minus the window square footage, plus a trim loss factor of 5-10%. In order to meet the buyers needs, we have full and half packages of various lengths. By consulting the coverage table, you can match to the needed square footage.

Q.Can I install the siding myself?

A. Many people have and it depends on skill levels and complexity of the job itself. Some basic instructions are on our website, however if you plan to do the installation, it is well worth the time to check local building codes and perhaps talk to a contractor. There are also websites and do it yourself books for reference.
