Stain Description

With the demand for new wood products and the development of new wood care technologies, Cedar West now provides its customers with the latest in total wood care protection through its factory machine staining facility.

Siding Staining Process

The benefits of machine staining wood in a factory controlled environment have been well documented. R. Sam Williams, research chemist with the Forest Products Laboratory in Madison, Wisconsin, stated "Short term exposure of wood to the elements prior to painting drastically decreased the adhesion of paint. Previous studies have shown that in a qualitative way, long-term weathering of wood prior to painting reduced subsequent paint performance."

In conjunction with the coating professionals at Cabot Stains, Cedar West produces premier quality factory machine stained wood siding and cedar shingles for North American and export markets.

Our shingles are kiln-dried in our state-of-the-art dehumidification dry kiln while Siding boards are dried to strict tolerances at the saw mill to ensure maximum stain adhesion. After the drying period, the boards or shingles are moved to the machine staining line to be coated on all six sides. Siding and shingles are available in either a 1 coat or 2 coat system depending on the specific customer requirements. From classic colors to contemporary earthtones, Cabot's color palette is designed to please the most discriminating tastes.
